What is a quick scan task?
A quick scan task provides the respondent with the ability to scan barcodes (1D) or QR Codes (2D). This task type is ideal for situations where the user needs to capture numerous scans and the data being collected is not associated to a Catalog. Read more on the mobile user experience here.

Create a quick scan task
There are three ways to create a quick scan task in the Mission builder.
- Select Add Component on an empty Mission builder canvas. This button is only available when adding the first task to a new Mission or section.
- Drag and drop Quick Scan from the components panel onto the Mission builder canvas. This can be done on an empty canvas or at any stage of Mission building.
- Click the ‘+’ sign above or below any existing task and choose Quick Scan from the components list.
Configure a quick scan task
-
Task title: Title your newly created task in a way that clearly indicates the user should scan barcodes to complete the response.
-
Task description: If the task requires specific instruction or further information, add a brief task description to help the user interpret the assignment.
-
Set a task mode: Newly created tasks are required by default, meaning the user must submit a response. Tasks can be changed to optional in the Task Mode dropdown.
- Select the scan type: Quick Scan tasks are set to scan barcodes (1D) by default. You can change the task to scan QR codes, instead.
- Select other options: You can select whether a mobile user should be able to manually add scans and / or if the mobile user should be able to edit a scanned entry. Read more on the mobile user experience here.
Add conditional tasks
At this time, conditional logic cannot be added to a quick scan task.

Supported barcode types
Below are the barcode types we currently support. Manual and scanned entries are limited to 25 characters for 1D codes and 250 characters for 2D codes. Mobile users will be able to scan up to 10,000 1D codes or 1,000 2D codes per Mission Response. When users are within 10 codes of the limit, there will be a visual indication that the limit is being reached.
