Enabling Geocoding

If a Place has been set to Prevent Geocoding and the coordinates need to reflect a change in address, you can Re-Enable Geocoding. Clicking Enable Geocoding will send a request to geocode the address in the address fields, as will saving an address in the Enable Geocoding state.

NOTE: Manually entering coordinates in the Latitude and Longitude fields of the Place Edit page always overrides the existing coordinates, even when geocoding is prevented.

A couple things to consider...
  • Places will automatically default to the Enable Geocoding state.
  •  Address fields that result in geocoding when edited in Enable Geocoding mode include Country, Street Address, City, State, and Postal Code

Select Places from the main navigation bar and search for the Place. Click the Edit button to the right of the name of the place.

Click the Enable Geocoding button on the upper right hand corner of the Edit Place page. If the button is displayed as Prevent Geocoding, geocoding is already enabled.
