Adjust Geocoding Settings
Every time a new address is added or adjusted in GoSpotCheck, we assign it specific geo-coordinates. These coordinates help us to map the address at the correct geographical location for users of GoSpotCheck app.
In some rare cases, the geo-coordinates may not precisely reflect the Place's true geographical location. Sometimes this occurs if there are multiple addresses which exist for the same place name, if there is a typo in the address saved to GoSpotCheck or because there is a formatting discrepancy between the address recorded in GoSpotCheck and our geo-coordinates provider.
In any of these cases, you can use the Prevent Geocoding feature to lock the coordinates on Places as they currently exist. Preventing Geocoding ensures that future changes to the address fields will not change where the Place shows up on the map in GoSpotCheck.
Prevent Geocoding
Select Places from the main navigation bar and search for the Place. Click the Edit button to the right of the name of the place.
Click the Prevent Geocoding button on the upper right hand corner of the Edit Place page. (If the button is displayed as Enable Geocoding, the coordinates are already locked.)
Enable Geocoding
If a Place has been set to Prevent Geocoding and the coordinates need to reflect a change in address, you can Re-Enable Geocoding. Clicking Enable Geocoding will send a request to geocode the address in the address fields, as will saving an address in the Enable Geocoding state.
NOTE: Manually entering coordinates in the Latitude and Longitude fields of the Place Edit page always overrides the existing coordinates, even when geocoding is prevented.
To re-enable Geocoding:
- Find the Place you'd like to re-enable for geocoding.
- Click Enable Geocoding in the top right hand corner of your screen.
- Click Save.
